How to make drain cleaner

MAKES 1 JAR

YOU WILL NEED:

» Mixing bowl

» Spoon

» Boiling water

» 90g (½ cup) bicarbonate of soda (baking soda)

» Herb and citrus powder

1 Add the bicarbonate of soda to the mixing bowl. Add the herb and citrus powder, stir to combine, then set aside.

2 Boil the kettle (or a pan of water on the stove).

HOW TO USE

First, remove any debris that may be caught in the plughole. Pour the boiling water down the plughole. Repeat this twice more.

Pour the bicarbonate of soda and citrus powder mix into the plughole and leave for 30 minutes. Flush with boiling water.

The best way to keep your drains free from blockages is to take some preventative measures:

In the kitchen: don’t pour any oil, fat or greasy substance down the drain. Once a week, add some bicarbonate of soda to the plughole and leave overnight. In the morning, flush with boiling water.

In the bathroom: when you are cleaning the shower tray or bathtub, wipe any stray hairs away with a cloth rather than flushing them down the plughole. You can also fit filter traps to stop hairs from getting into the drain.
